Happy Birthday to Me!

One thing about living with ALS, you no longer lament getting older, in fact you realize that each and every birthday is a privilege.

Thus my request for a birthday party this year.  Remember as a child how exciting birthdays used to be?  When did we lose that excitement?  I remember throwing a surprise party for Travis's 25th, after all, we tend to recognize milestones instead of, for example, "wow, it's your 37th!"!  Of course we had a fantastic time and were definitely living in the moment.  As we got older, birthdays became low key affairs, celebrating in intimate and more refined and adult ways, which have also been lovely, but now it was time for a real party!

I knew that it would be a fun celebration, but had no idea how swanky and delicious it would be.  I felt so loved and spoiled and even had an ice cream birthday cake!

Thank you to my out-of-towners, for driving in the pouring rain to celebrate with me.
Thank you to Mel for doing my hair and makeup.
Thank you to Brittany for showing up early and helping to decorate.
Thank you to Shawnne for your outstanding service to my guests.
Thank you to Sean for your incredible photography.
Thank you to the Brookstreet Culinary staff for putting on such a delicious feast.
Thank you to all for making me smile by throwing me a wonderful birthday.

Most of all, thank you to my amazing husband for always going above and beyond to make me feel special and loved.

Remember that life is a gift, even when there is tremendous struggle involved.  So instead of commiserating over how old you are going to be, celebrate how lucky you are to have made it to another birthday!
