Happy New Year!

The start of 2014 began much the same as 2013, with the flu!  It has been a rough week, I caught the flu and was unable to go to the Ottawa/Boston hockey game that I was so looking forward to.  At least this year our fridge didn't break down!  After 4 days in bed I started to feel better and did errands around the house, of course I overdid it and had to spend the next day in bed.  I am still negotiating the terms of ALS.  I want to live my life to the fullest while I can but there are some days my body won't let me.  It is very frustrating.  Then my kitty Dory got sick and had to be hospitalized.  I felt down on New Year's Eve fearing what the New Year may bring for me, self pity comes easy when you have the flu!

Stress in life is a given - it is our perspective of what we choose to focus on that matters, and if all else fails, there is always poutine!

Awesome things to focus on: we had a great Christmas with mom & dad, plenty of food & eggnog, Travis came home earlier than expected on New Year's Eve, so we were able to ring in the New Year together, Dory is now home and recovering, we saw the Hobbit (Imax 3D) of which I am a huge fan of the scenery and story, I have many friends to see and plenty of dinners/lunches/and coffee dates, we have not one but 2 trips coming up, and we are so blessed & excited to have family moving to Ottawa in 2014!

Dearest Carol and Trav, you bring so much goodness, passion and friendship to 2014.

My little experience in this life has made it very clear in my opinion that in this world their are some real nasty things that happen to the most wonderful, innocent, kind, worthy and beautiful beings : humans and animals, even plants, usally the more rare and delicate are hardest hit (weeds are very resilient ;-)), I have been trying to garden this summer and its my current epiphany.

I agree that is more about the how we respond to life rather than what we do, how we deal with it all. You are doing such a great job!

You have a sound mind, a stong mind, a beautful mind and I declare that over you for 2014. You bring so much amazingness into this year!

You are a champion!

No matter what this year brings to any of us, I want you to know you are deserving of every good thing: life to the full, joy, health, fufullment and when the flu hits, the blizzards knock out power don't for a moment think you have invited this or brought it on yourself or others! (I know this is not what you or Vern McLennan were meaning but I just feel so passionately that there is a lot of aweful stuff that is not because of individual conciousness). x

I believe it is in spirit that we can truly overcome, you are soaring so high above the storms. Our bodies and minds may be weak at times but their is something miraculous when we find strength in things that are honorable, things that are just, things that are pure, things that are lovely, things that are of good to celebrate and you do just that!

It brings calmness in the storm , protection for the soul.

Love you both very much, keep soaring. xx

Happy New Year! I always look forward to reading your posts. l love that you're able to be real about the frustrations and challenges, and at the same time remind us all of how important our perspective is in shaping our exeperience. Even though we 'preach' that to our clients it's so much harder to practice, and you inspire me to keep working at it. But like you said, there's always poutine! Wishing you many awesome moments in the year ahead xo

Wishing you both a year ahead where you know for certain that you are deeply loved.

Re sale of the Condo: I suspect it will be a last minute thing. Three days before we left South Africa we still had an empty house to rent and an unsold car. The house rental was agreed the day before we left and all paperwork have to be faxed to the Ukraine. We sold the car to Kate's parents who drove us to the airport. Handshake over the trolley loaded with suitcases!

Just catching up, I had a good chuckle as I'd never heard of 'Poutine', I thought it was a typo for 'routine'. I googled it so have learnt something new! Will have to try it oneday, hopefully in Canada with you guys :) Love Em & Rich x Ps. Respect to your honesty and perspective check... you are doing SO well! x
