At the Port of Livorno we took a tour to Cinque Terre which means five lands. It is a beautiful area otherwise known as the Italian Riviera. Vineyards, houses and churches are perched on dramatic cliffs. Lemons are the size of grapefruits and we were there during the lemon festival. The area is known for its pine nuts & basil so of course pesto is a popular dish. It was so bursting with flavour that we all bought jars to take home with us. On the tour we took a boat along the stunning coast as well as two trains. Our tour guide Andrea was fantastic, he was a historian who was full of knowledge and humour, he is from the bay known as the bay of poets where Shelley & Keats were known to have lived.

U'r all going to be returning home with golden tans! And great to have a historian as a guide! Keats surely received his inspiration for his famous 'Ode to Autumn' from the scenes of fruitfulness u'r describing. Our tree-lined driveway currently adorned with 'mellow fruitfulness' - orange persimmons, orange mandarins, yellowing lemons and gooseberries all filled with 'ripeness to the core' call out the 'ode' in me :)
