Andrew Caddell presenting the Pip award. Created to honour campers and staff who went out into the world and made it a better place by carrying the spirit of Non Nobis Solum -- Not for ourselves alone. In memory of Philip "Pip" Caddell, Kanawana 1928, and James Caddell, Kanawana 1983-1991. Both dedicated members of the community who gave of themselves and soliders who served abroad for peace in Britain, Italy (1939-1945) and Bosnia (1995).

I cannot express how truly honoured and grateful I am to have received this inspiring award.  It was such a treasure to be able to take Travis to Kamp Kanawana, I have always wished that he could see "Camp Girl Carol"!  As we drove in, I had goosebumps, it is a magical place.  It was wonderful of the maintenance staff to fashion a motor onto the pontoon boat and give me a chair for a VIP tour of Lac Kanawana.  Just as beautiful as I remembered.  I was so happy that Sean Day who I was at both camps with is the Director of Kanawana.  We reminisced about old times and he showed us how camp has changed, and remained the same.  It was incredible to be there with the campers.  It was the final night of the first session and many had dressed up for the banquet.  I witnessed the full experience of my memories, junior boys running around with mud on their faces, a slap of a beaver tail on the lake, campers & staff singing, dancing and even the same cheers that I screamed over twenty years ago.  "The trip's back!", someone shouted and staff and campers hugged one another.  Unrestrained joy.  You've never seen anything like it.

There are so many amazing things about camp, nature, campfires, canoeing, overnights, activities, but on a deeper level camp teaches you confidence, kindness, appreciation, passion, love and how to be there for others.  Send your kids to camp, it is an experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives!

Please feel free to check out my speech on the media page as well as photos of the event on the gallery page.

Thank you so much to Andrew Caddell and his family who inspire us all to be better people, I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with James at camp.

Thank you to the Pip Award Committee, as well as to those who nominated me.

Thank you to Chris Neal and his wife as well as Itche Kerr and Derek and Vanessa Valente for your support during the day.

Thank you to Sean Day, the Kanawana staff, LIT's, and campers for showing me the true spirit of Non Nobis Solum.

I look forward to seeing even more of you and catching up at the 2016 Alumni Reunion in September.

Ah that looks an amazing place, filled with staff who have given generously of themselves and campers who have benefitted, and have no doubt gone on to be givers as well. Well done Carol for giving generously back then and continuing to do so. Congratulations on a well deserved award.
