The Power of a Pedicure

I feel very brave - took my big ugly wheelchair out from the apartment to the spa by myself today!  I've been having a mental block going out alone in my big bad chair, with feelings of hating people staring at me, fear of getting caught in doors, driving over curbs, and most of all resenting the fact that I need it at all.  Amazing, I've been diving with sharks, I've pet cheetahs, I've flown in a glider and gone parasailing, but so far this chair has been my greatest fear (even though I am highly aware that the worse is yet to come).  The Power of a Pedicure!  It was so nice to have a long foot massage as there is no circulation in my feet.  They literally turn black when they get cold.  I did get stuck in one door, but now that I've done it once, I think I'll do it again.  Trying my best to not let my fear get to me by enjoying the rewards of facing it.

We are enjoying the Olympics tremendously (although Travis questions why I love the Men's diving, it's the synchronization I swear!) .  Great to watch the Canadian Women's Rugby Sevens win bronze.  Go Canada!

Looking forward to our cruise and Travis bought me a beautiful new carry on bag to add to the excitement!

When we come back we are headed to Kamp Kanawana's Alumni Reunion on The weekend of September 10th.  I have already heard from some of my friends from the 90's who will be attending, hope to see you there!  For more information on the Reunion please contact Vanessa at Vanessa.Valente@ymcaquebec.org

Don't forget, it's August, time for the Ice Bucket Challenge!  I realize it is not the fad that it was in 2014, but every drop adds up!  I also think it is time for the next generation to get doused!

Together, we're making a difference

"Every August until a cure. Because we have to."

These words from Ice Bucket Challenge co-founder Pat Quinn speak to the importance of raising money for ALS research. As we approach the second anniversary of the Ice Bucket Challenge, we are already seeing its impact: researchers who were funded through the Ice Bucket Challenge donations recently announced that the gene NEK1 has been found to play a role in the development of ALS.

Through the month of August, we're rallying behind Pat Quinn's words because we know that research - and the donations that fund it - are key to making ALS a treatable, not terminal, disease. Please join us by making a donation today.

Glad you enjoyed the reward side of having braved the solo wheelchair journey. So Canada took bronze in the womens 7's. I missed that part of it, having focused on New Zealand taking Silver ;-)
Have a great cruise, look forward to seeing the pics and hearing about the adventure.

bring out national pride...)

Carol I'm so glad I was directed to your blog. I read from start to finish last night - i laughed and cried and was so overwhelmed with your strength & courage and fire that you have in you. You are beyond inspiring. As my family begins this journey with my mom I will refer to your site often. I will also share this with my mom when she's ready so that she can also be inspired by you and share some of your courage & strength. Thank you!
